Babyisms

Definition:
"Babyism": A babyish manner of acting or speaking.

“Nina” for “Nana” – He can say “nana” just fine, so perhaps he just decided this was just a good way to distinguish between a “Nana” and a “banana”

Cha Cha Choo Choo – instead of chugga chugga choo choo

Gui-Tara! - Of course his Aunt Tara’s favorite (and it took him a while to add the Gui- for a while it was just “Tara!”)

I Welcome! - which kind of make sense. Why say “you’re welcome”? The other person didn’t do anything.

Happy Birthday, Mouse

Yesterday was my birthday.

By a happy twist of fate, Asher's teacher's birthday was last week and so when Deenesh told Asher to say "Happy Birthday" Asher did one better and started belting out the Happy Birthday Song. To the best of his 2-year-old ability.

Last night, I was changing Asher's diaper in a store restroom and Asher was talking VERY LOUDLY. Although no one else was in the room with us, I still requested that he use a quieter voice. When this had no effect, I said,

"Asher, why don't you pretend you're singing to a mouse? You have to be very quiet so you don't scare the mouse."

After considering this he put out his hands and said, "Hold mouse?"

I said, "Yes, you can hold the mouse"

Then cupping his hands in front of him, as if he was gently holding a mouse, he started belting out, quite loudly "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MOUSE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MOUSE!"

Perhaps we should have gone with plastic...

After Asher "studied" elephants at daycare (whatever "studied" means when your 2), my Mom bought him 4 ceramic elephants that stand in a line with trunks linking tails. Asher instantly loved them.

Since I didn't see much point in a 2 year owning something that was purely decorative, I let Asher play with them.

It now looks as though the elephants were mauled in a tiger attack. They are missing legs and trunks all over the place.

On the plus side, I think they would look fantastic in a diorama. The legless elephant could be sinking into a muddy marsh pit while the rest of the family is attacked by a saber tooth tiger. Hmm... I wonder if that would give Asher nightmares.

and we are BACK!

Both back to Williamsburg, and after a much too long delay, the the world of internet access.

Here is a happy dance to celebrate. *

More to follow on the move and intervening events.

*Unfortunately the music didn't come through on the video. They happen to be dancing to "Wild Thing", so you'll just have to hum it to yourself.

DC Harbor Cruise

Dating as a toddler can be a very difficult business.

First you have to pick a really nice restaurant that lets your date know you are more sophisticated than those other toddlers.
And you generally have to endure chaperons. (In this case, not just the parents, but even Nana came along!)

Those pesky chaperons.

You should be sure to follow dinner up with an exciting excursion.
And since you are toddlers, there should definitely be some time for running.

Be sure to keep your cool and act like you know what you are doing.

And then, have a good time.

(The Dads, trying to recapture their "cool" pre-dad days)

And if you're really with it, and having a good time, you might even try a little dancing. (Look at Asher, he's really bringing his moves! Well, apart from a little toe-stepping)

Try not to have a meltdown when she decides she's done with dancing (a meltdown would consist of crying, refusing to dance with anyone else, and sobbing while pointing and saying "that one! that one!" and trying to pull her out of her dad's hands)
After recovering from the end of dancing, return to the calm evening and show her a nice sunset.

And then, call it a night because it is WAY past both of your bedtimes.

Agghhh!

Agghh! Attack of the ghost hand!!

Post-Party Party

Almost as good as a party is the post-party hanging out.
After Asher's birthday party, Asher's friend Julia and her parents helped us clean up and then hung out for a bit.

One might say we had a "rocking" good time.

Oh yeah.

And after we rocked out, Asher took Julia for a spin on his fire truck.

And we got a taste of what we sound like to Asher when we push him on the truck.

“Feet up! Turn! Turn!”

And then it was time to say good bye.
(I know there were a lot of photos for this post, but really they could not have been cuter. Well, except that they were the next week on our DC harbor cruise...)
