Thor

Kiera came up with the idea, which she now believes quite strongly, that Nana's dog actually belongs to her but just lives with Nana.  (I encourage this belief because, well, otherwise she would want us to get her a dog.)

The other day Kiera told Nana "My dog really likes you!"  (All the more funny because the dog likes my mom so much that he never wants to leave her side.)

The girl has style

Both of my kids will generally ignore any recommendation I might have as to what they would wear.

With Asher I can generally get around the problem, if I want him to wear something I simply put the shirt on top of his pile of shirts, and the pants on top of his pile of pants.

With Kiera I just have to accept that she will choose what she's going to wear. One day she will go to school in a formal dress, the next in pajamas. But it is always awesome.

(Dress AND shorts on over her pajamas)

(Tattooed hand and a necklace from raiding Mommy's jewelry box)
It's hard to tell from this photo, but she has two shirts on. It's a common solution for when she really likes two shirts (or shorts, or underwear) on any given day.

Baby

Kiera loves her baby doll. She will sometimes remark to me, "you are my mommy, and I am her mommy!"

(she will also sometimes notice "you are my mommy, and nana is your mommy!")
and look they can even share clothes.

Pouty face

This girl knows how to pout!  This particular pout was because we got home after biking and she remembered Asher and Deenesh were gone and she was upset because " I wanted to yell surprise!"

Bed of Roses ... Or weeds

Who needs a bed of roses when you can have a bed of weeds?  Less thorns after all.

Asher created this massive pile of weeds with his dad (yes, we've let the backyard get a little out of hand.)

After showing Kiera the pillow, he actually said "and nature will be our TV!"

Luckily he did not ask to sleep in his bed of weeds for the night :)

29 mistakes

One night Asher ended up being the only person at the pool. The lifeguards were entertaining themselves by playing Frisbee and Asher have the honor of getting the frisbee whenever it landed in the pool.  (Which he thought was absolutely awesome).

However, he did keep count of every time they made a mistake and the frisbee landed in the pool. At last count I believe it was 29.

Father's Day

A little late, but I thought I would post some photos from Father's Day.

We had a spectacular brunch at a local restaurant. And then hit fossil beach, where we stumbled upon the coolest mud pit ever!

We learned that Kiera still has a scream that shatters ear drums which she demonstrated every time she saw a crab.   We saw quite a few.

I think my favorite part was Asher's maturity in giftgiving this year, which included mopping the kitchen floor, and weeding his dad's porch plants and planting new basil and flowers for his Dad.

School Art

It seems impossible that Asher's first year of kindergarten is already done.  We were lucky to have a spectacular teacher this year.

Creative furniture use

This is how the kids were watching TV this morning.

Blast from the past

Our neighbor is going through his old photos and just texted this photo to me. It is Halloween 2010 - I can't believe how little the kids were!

Headed to the horse race

The neighbors hosted a horserace party, so we made sure to wear fancy hats.

Little teacher

Asher loves picking his sister up from daycare because he gets to visit his old pre-K class and read them a book.  He does a really good job, and then he asks lots of questions to test their comprehension after he's done reading.

Strawberry jam

Picking the strawberries

Waiting for the ferry

Making the strawberry jam

(Kiera was reluctant to squash the strawberries, but once she started, she loved it)

Eating the strawberry jam on ice cream!  Delicious!!

My mom is a celebrity!

My mom and her friend recently had their first gig playing flute at a nursing home.  They did a fantastic job, and the residents really seemed to enjoy it.
