Greece: Part 5- Speaking of the Olympians

The most famous site on Crete is Knossos, home of King Minos and the famed labyrinth of the Minotaur.

Greece: Part 4- All about the Beaches

No matter how much people pretend they are in Crete because of its historical significance as the play area of the Olympian gods, everyone knows it is about the beaches. Why else does everyone show up in the summer?
Agios Pavlos where Icarus and Daedalus took flight (see cliffs below)!
Some of us viewed the beaches as a perfect place to relax,

while others sought to build every lasting monuments.

The beaches also provided time for quiet contemplation,

but when the sea was angry it was time to appease the gods.

Greece: Part 3- Fresh Food

One of our favorite parts of travelling around Crete was the amazing food and, of course, the Raki and Ouzo. At one restaurant we ordered goat and asked the proprietor whether it came from the hills above or below the restaurant—he pointed down and said the goats came from the farm below, the rabbits from the hills above.

Asher didn’t feel that this was fresh enough. Here he is catching his own lunch.

Greece: Part 2- Hydrate

We have started teaching Asher key rules to live life by. Rule #1 is to always stay hydrated (Asher's favorite SAT word). This is obviously critical when travelling in Greece during the summer. Luckily Crete was full of the most amazing and interesting water fountains.

Greece: Part 1- Traveling

Since deciding to go to Greece, we have been showing Asher videos about travelling by plane. We needn't have bothered. He was a pro. Asher's three rules for flying:

#1: Always wear your seatbelt.

#2: Make sure to get as much sleep as possible.

#3: And always keep your sense of humor.

Sunshine

Every day of my pregnancy with Asher I would sing "You are my sunshine" to him

Once he was born I would sing it to him several times a day, and as he got older I would sing it to him every night before he went to bed.

I imagined it would become a special song between us.

Apparently to Asher though, it is just a song that I sing when I want him to go to sleep. No matter where we are or what we are doing, if I try to sing it to him now I can't get through the first line before he gives an emphatic "No."
