Toddlers are Awesome! Part II

I have harnessed Asher's love of the spray bottle for the power of good.Exploitation or just good parenting?
I'm not sure, but Asher was thrilled when I bought him is own purple sponge today (that way he won't accidentally use a sponge that has been used with chemical products that might irritate his skin), and my cabinets are gleaming. It seems like a win-win to me!

Asher's Bedroom Makeover

Asher loves his new room!

Okay, we didn't go quite that crazy.

Despite the fact that I keep hearing echoes of my father's voice through the years lamenting the tragedy of anything wood that had been painted, wood paneling just does not make a very nice setting for a kid's room. So we painted.

Asher used about a gallon of water squirting the walls to clean them.

And fought with his Daddy over primacy of the step stool.
Then we sent Asher off to school and we started painting.
Painting wood paneling is not fun. Even with a thick roller we had to painstakingly fill in the gaps between the panels.
And the smell was toxic.

Did you know that Home Depot has over 147 shades of white?

We chose "cottage white" because it had a nice warm tint to it. We considered a couple different colors but since the room doesn't get much light we were concerned that they would be too dark. Or wouldn't be warm enough.

After all, we can always paint again later when we want to change the color.

Toddlers are Awesome!

The other morning when I was in the shower Asher was at his table writing in his notebook when Deenesh took out the trash.

When Deenesh got back this is what he found.

Asher had gone under the sink, got a trash bag, and was carefully arranging it in the trash can.

I plan on showing Asher this post often when he is a teenager.

Waiting for the Chinese New Year

Deenesh has instructed me on the Asian custom of having one’s home in order for the New Year. Having a cluttered, dirty home will lead to having a cluttered dirty life in the New Year.

This year our living area was in fairly good condition, and was even better than the last couple of years, so I was feeling pretty good about things.

So I’m not quite sure how to interpret that Asher woke up on Jan 1, with the declaration “Mommy, my bed is wet!” His diaper had leaked and he was in a puddle. Later in the day when he was supposed to be taking a nap with Deenesh, he woke Deenesh up with the exclamation “Daddy, your hat!”

He had vomited in Deenesh’s hat.

The good news was, it was only in Deenesh’s hat.

That evening at dinner he stuck a sticker up his nose. ?!?!?!?!?! It’s the first time he stuck anything up his nose, and let me inform you that getting it out was less than pleasant (it was far enough up there that for quite some time we thought he was mistaken. Turns out we were wrong).

So I’m declaring an official do-over. We are waiting for the Chinese New Year.

Christmas Morning

My favorite is that when he checks on Santa's cookies, he seems completely oblivious to the giant train table that has appeared in the room overnight.

I also like that when he notices he exclaims "this is new" and that the seems tentative about touching it, except when he sees his kitty cat on it.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.
